The position vacancy to replace our State Conservationist just closed. I am very interested in participating in the review/hiring process, to the extent that I am able, and would like to know how other state directors have been able to insert themselves into this process. Any suggestions?
      Thanks a lot!

As far as I know WV has never been consulted on an internal NRCS personnel issue.

I have not been involved in the process of selecting a State Con.

The closest I have ever gotten was to contact the Regional Con (in your case Astor) and submit a list on behalf of the State partnership of the knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and qualities the partnership desires in their new State Con. The Regional Con was willing to tailor some interview questions such that the candidate that possessed those desired traits would interview successfully. I am not aware of any non-USDA folks that have been an actual part of the selection process for a State Con position in the past.

I am not aware of any non-USDA participation that has been a part of the selection process for a State Con position in the past in MN. The outgoing State Con might be a resource or avenue to inquire of.
